April was relatively quiet. Only one major item was past and that was a contract to put a sprinkler system in at the day park. We have planted new trees and are looking to add some landscaping to the park. April 23 was very busy as petitions were handed in from those individuals looking to run for Township elected offices. Please contact the Clerk’s office for a listing of the applicants by office. Elected offices are for Supervisor, Clerk, Trustee (2 positions) and Treasurer. We started our new fiscal year on April 1, 2024, and a quick snapshot of our preliminary April 2024 is listed below and the complete financial results report will be presented at the May Board meeting: APRIL 2024 (Fiscal year 4/1/2024-3/31/2025) REVENUE $2,469,141 Higher than budget by $120,715 and prior year $570,675 EXPENSES ($2,235,217) Lower than budget by $507,175 but higher to prior year ($53,385) NET $ 233,924 Positive to budget by $627,890 and prior year $517,290 Further details will be found in my monthly financial report to the Board at our next Board meeting. TOWNSHIP MEETINGS: The May Board meeting is Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Preliminary agenda will be available May 16, 2024, after 2 PM. This is coming out later than usual as it has been a very busy month so far. The board approved at the April Board meeting the 2023 road improvement plans and the key areas are as follows: Old Mission Estates gravel roads will now be paved sometime during the summer; the upper portion of Barnes road will be repaired and repaved; a section of Lore Rd will be fixed and repaved; and Stone Circle will be resurfaced with a limestone mixture that should allow that road to hold up better for the next few years. As mentioned in my last letter, I had been approached by Central Lake Village to see if we would be interested in sharing the cost of an additional police officer. I had an additional discussion this past week. Based on input from the Central Lake Village attorney, the original idea was not going to meet the legal test necessary for our involvement. The attorney provided some alternatives which will be explored at out Board meeting on May 16th. They had received a grant to provide for an officer in the school but had not been successful with getting someone on a part-time basis. Since part of our Township is within the Central Lake School district, our Township has a vested interest in ensuring the students in the Central Lake School district are properly protected.
